PNU-OVPA, RITQ Hold Participatory Workshop on Future-Ready Professional Standards at TEC TEd Roadmap 2035 Caravan
The Philippine Normal University (PNU), through the Office of the Vice President for Academics (OVPA) and the Research Institute for Teacher Quality (RITQ), conducted a participatory co-creation workshop on future-ready professional standards for teachers and school leaders last September 25, 2026, at Saint Louis University in Baguio City. As part of the Teacher Education Council (TEC) Teacher Education Roadmap 2035 Caravan, this workshop was led by Dr. Celia Ilanan, Dean of the College of Alternative and Lifelong Learning, and Dr. Brando Palomar, Director of RITQ.
Held on the fourth and final day of the Caravan, the workshop, “Setting the Standards of Future-ready Teachers and School Leaders: A Participatory Co-creation Workshop,” brought together education stakeholders to examine the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH), and Philippine Professional Standards for Supervisors (PPSS). Through guided discussions, participants such as pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, private school teachers, teacher educators, and school leaders provided input on which domains and indicators remain essential, which may need reframing, and which emerging competencies should be integrated into the standards.
The discussions centered on the drivers currently shaping the profession, including post-pandemic learning conditions, emerging technologies, mental health and well-being, updated professional frameworks and policies, educational aspirations, and the changing educational and industry requirements. Participants also explored how responsive the standards are to diverse Philippine educational contexts, highlighting implementation and contextual challenges. They emphasized that the professional standards should be grounded in the contexts in which teachers, school heads, and supervisors actually work.

The workshop provided practitioner and stakeholder perspectives on the continuing national dialogue on the professional standards and teacher education. Through this activity, the PNU and the RITQ supported the broader TEC Teacher Education Roadmap 2035 initiative by helping surface priorities for professional standards that are responsive to emerging needs, inclusive of diverse educational contexts, and grounded in the realities of practice.
