RITQ co-facilitates first development writeshop on reframing pre-service teacher education curriculum
RITQ co-facilitated with the Teacher Education Council (TEC) the Development Writeshop 1 on the Reframing of the Pre-service Teacher Education Curriculum last 12-15 February 2025 at the Ramada by Wyndham Manila Central, Santa Cruz, Manila.
The writeshop was part of the RITQ-led research project under the TEC and Philippine Normal University’s (PNU) Research Initiatives for Teacher Education (RITE). The said writeshop focused on reframing the Professional Education courses and defining the experiential learning component of the pre-service teacher education curriculum.
Experts from the Commission on Higher Education-Technical Panels for Teacher Education (CHED-TPTE), chaired by Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, led the discussions to inform curricular decision points.
RITQ Consultants Dr. Evelyn C. Cruzada, Dr. Ester B. Ogena, and Dr. Rita B. Ruscoe, together with other TEC member representatives, participated in the collaborative process as well.
The RITQ management was represented by Director, Dr. Brando C. Palomar, and Deputy Director Dr. Maria Teresa Manicio-Tembrevilla. Also supporting the writeshop were Project Officer Mr. Mikkey Mari Tuazon and research analysts Ms. Ma. Salome Fulgencio and Ms. Michelle Margaret Zuñiga.
The TEC Secretariat was represented by Dr. Runvi V. Manguerra, Executive Director II; Ms. Donnadette S.G. Belza, Executive Assistant IV; Dr. Jessie Mazeen A. Santos, Senior Education Program Specialist; and Ms. Clarence Jillian V. Maala, Education Program Specialist.
CHED representatives—Mr. Ericson M. Reyes, Senior Education Program Specialist and Ms. Pamela R. Llamedo, Education Program Specialist—were also part of the writeshop process. ,
Mr. Gerson M. Abesamis, Director IV of the Education Futures Office of the Department of Education (DepEd), delivered an insightful presentation on the futures of education which gave participants critical perspectives on where to take the reframing of Teacher Education in the country.
RITQ’s research work shaped the development process and guided the experts in drafting proposals on reframing the program outcomes of teacher education and in rethinking the professional education courses and the experiential learning components of the curriculum.
This writeshop marks the beginning of a series of development activities focused on crafting a pre-service teacher education curriculum that is resilient, future-proof, and aligned with the nation’s needs. As the research arm of the project, RITQ affirms its commitment to improving the quality of teachers in the country by contributing to this crucial initiative for pre-service teacher education.
