RITQ conducted separate orientation sessions on 11 October 2024 to introduce the MATATAG K to 10 curriculum to the Mindanao State University – Maguindanao (MSU-Maguindanao) and Cotabato State University (CSU).

The RITQ team, led by Director Dr. Brando Palomar and Deputy Director Dr. Thei Manicio, with senior program managers Dr. Ali Anudin and Dr. Allan Reyes, traveled to Maguindanao and Cotabato City to share insights on the new DepEd curriculum. These sessions were held to support the teacher education institutions (TEIs) in understanding and preparing for the integration of the MATATAG curriculum, which introduces an updated framework aimed at enhancing basic education nationwide.

Dr. Sema Dilna, president of Cotabato State University, expressed the importance of this orientation, saying, “This session will ensure that our educators are equipped with the latest pedagogical strategies and insights.”

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Joel Arenas, dean of MSU-Maguindanao College of Education, highlighted the critical role of TEIs in implementing the curriculum. “The MATATAG curriculum represents a significant shift in the educational landscape of our basic education, and it is important that teacher education institutions are adequately prepared to integrate and deliver this new framework effectively. MSU-Maguindanao, as a leading institution in this Bangsamoro region, plays a vital role in shaping future educators who will implement these changes at the grassroots level,” Dr. Arenas said.

  • Overview of the MATATAG Curriculum,
  • Science of Learning in the MATATAG Lesson Design,
  • Collaborative Expertise Sessions as support for curriculum implementation and teacher professional development,
  • A focused group discussion with teacher educators and pre-service teachers to establish a shared understanding of the MATATAG Curriculum, offering crucial insights into teacher preparation.

RITQ’s sessions aimed to empower the two TEIs by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum’s goals and methodologies. Through these collaborative efforts, RITQ is helping to build the capacity of educators who will shape the next generation of teachers in the region.
