RITQ participated in the 2nd Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Education Summit held in Davao City on 28-29 November 2024 where discussions framed by inclusivity, equity, and excellence in education took center stage.

RITQ Director Dr. ER Palomar and Deputy Director Dr. Thei Manicio represented the institute at the two-day event organized by the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE).

Dr. Palomar and Dr. Manicio joined other educators, local and international development partners, public and private agencies, and education stakeholders in discussing accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities in the BARMM education systems.

MBHTE Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal delivered a comprehensive report on the State of Education in the Bangsamoro Region. The theme, “One MBHTE: Advancing Access, Equity, and Excellence in all Bangsamoro Learning Modalities” highlighted the accomplishments and ways forward of the Bangsamoro ministry.

The sessions explored the heritage, context, values, and aspirations of the Bangsamoro through historical, political, sociocultural, and moral lenses. Discussions highlighted alternative delivery modes for school-less areas, peace education, flexible learning modalities, technology integration, early childhood care and development, and contextualized and inclusive education.

Dr. Marjuni Maddi, Director General for Higher Education, shared initiatives and collaboration opportunities in higher education. He recognized PNU as a supportive partner of the ministry’s initiatives. Dr. Maddi emphasized the importance of strengthening quality assurance in higher education institutions and urged partners to invest in teacher education.

RITQ, in partnership with MBHTE, has completed various projects on teacher quality with the support of the Australian government through the Pathways to Peace in Mindanao Program from 2021 to 2023. (RITQ Communications).
